Maharishi revisits the original silhouette of the Classic Leather for their third successive project with Reebok, a pillar within their extensive repertoire of footwear; embedded within several circles of youth subcultures - which in the late 90’s propelled the silhouette to its undeniable recognition and cultural significance within the UK.
Throughout the design process the Classic Leather Ripstop respects duality, a concept deeply embedded within the Maharishi ethos seeking to draw out hidden commonalities of seemingly opposing forces. Juxtaposing the use of MIL-SPEC matte ripstop and reflective 3M beading around the heel, tongue as well as secondary laces creates a shoe which equips its wearer protection from the elements.
‘Unique Forms of Continuity in Space’ (1913) by Umberto Boccioni serves as a visual reference point for London-based photographer Stanley Everest, as his process and post-production pays homage to Boccioni’s body of futurist sculptures which examined ideas of relative and absolute motion. Low-key images are illuminated by light trails during long exposures, whilst both subjects remain partially engulfed in shadows. The editorial introduces pieces from Maharishi’s Spring / Summer 2023 Pre collection showcasing advanced fabric developments fit for transitional conditions such as a refined Italian Cotton/Linen Ripstop, Cordura NYCO® Twill®, and a discreet take on DPM: Bonsai Forest seen referencing the Pointillist movement.
