maharishi and UK writer 'Teach' join forces once again to create a series of artworks, limited prints and t-shirts in celebration of the Lunar Year of the Rat.
Teach's signature 'YE' throw up can be seen metamorphosed into a rat. Inspiration stems from 'The Photojournalist' character played by Dennis Hopper – coincidentally born during the Year of the Rat – in the 1979 epic Apocalypse Now, a film that has frequently been referenced throughout past maharishi collections.
Reinforcing skills as a multi-disciplinary artist, Teach's techniques include using corrosive acid on metal panels to create a unique rust texture; a nod to the past and a common graffiti technique used to write on subway trains.
Laser cutting is used to create an edition of 20 small scale 'Teach' tag sculptures, presented alongside 3 signed, unique, hand-painted enamel works on paper and an edition of 20 numbered and signed screen prints.
From group shows at the iconic Moma, V1 Gallery or the Venice Biennale, to illegal street interventions, Teach is at ease navigating between these different worlds and this collection proves that he's not finished exploring his obsession for his iconic YE throwup.
