Maha Tailor Shop describes Maharishi’s annually repeated capsule collection inspired by the vibrant tailor shops that flourished in Vietnam during the 1960s. These establishments gained prominence due to the influx of U.S. Army personnel, leading to a burgeoning demand for uniform modifications, custom tailoring, and unique souvenirs.

UPCYCLING

Within the Maha Tailor Shop capsule sits a range of styles made from upcycled military surplus. These designs reflect Maharishi's commitment to environmental responsibility while maintaining its signature language rooted in utility and heritage. Maharishi’s early collections included hand-spray painted, heavy-duty woven overalls originally made by and for Prisoners of War in WW2 England, and U.S. Army Snow Camouflage Over Trousers, overdyed from the white original, which later formed the loose inspiration for the Original Snopants®, Maharishi’s signature silhouette.

In order to remove any military association from the fabrics, in line with Maharishi’s pacifist design ethos, garments are smudged with herbal incense, blessed, and washed in saffron water to symbolically cleanse them.

Lifetime Repair Service

As well as upcycling military surplus, Maharishi also runs an in-house repair service at the Soho store, where customers are offered a free lifetime repair service for any Maharishi garment.

Maharishi's Tailor Shop collection pays homage to this rich history by blending Eastern and Western design influences, emphasising minimalist aesthetics, and utilising sustainable materials like hemp or upcycled military surplus. Silhouettes are defined by their versatility and include customisable blazers, military-inspired overshirts, and loose-fit utility pants.
