ORIGINAL SNOPANTS®
Snopants® have been long established as Maharishi's signature trouser, having featured in each collection since 1996.
The silhouette is based on an early U.S. Army Snow Camouflage Over Trouser – a basic shell that was designed to be worn over military combat uniforms. Upcycling original military surplus pieces, Maharishi refined and improved on the original design season by season, altering the construction, adding pocket bags, elasticated drawstring waists and hand worked embroidered embellishments; these multiple improvements led to Maharishi renaming them 'Snopants', now a registered trademark.
Having been decommissioned by the US military in the 80's the growing popularity of Maharishi's upcycled version resulted in supplies of true vintage, dead stock surplus pieces eventually running out, leading to Maharishi creating their own bespoke cut and sew version. This gave them more freedom to incorporate additional design features such as stash pockets and to create their own patented Snocord® and Snobutton® systems, unique to Maharishi, which allows the wearer to fully adjust the trouser length. Intricate free-hand machined embroideries are synonymous with Snopants®, consistently offered with seasonal artworks in a variety of fabrics, as well as loose, straight, and cargo variants.
As the popularity of this style grew exponentially, they were widely copied by much of the fashion world, to the point they were dubbed the "Most copied pant of the decade" by Arena Homme Plus and were eventually added to the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum of Design and Decorative Arts.My inline text
